The other day, TV writer-producer Jane Espenson (writer on Buffy, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly and show runner for Caprica), posted that she didn’t care for the new question Twitter asked on their update box:
A couple of hours later, she updated with the “First Rule of the Writers’ Room”:
In other words, if you think something’s broken, it’s not enough to just say it’s broken. You have to try and bring a solution to the problem you’ve spotted, and ideally, you can prove why your solution is better.
It may not always be achievable, but it’s a good goal to aim for.
